What is FEP Coating?
FEP coating (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene Coating) is a nonstick coating that melts and flows during baking to provide smooth non-porous films with excellent abrasion resistance. Because the coating is non-porous, its chemical resistance is superb.
Food Safe Coating
The FEP coating process is great for the food processing industry because of its high degree of chemical abrasion and crack stress resistance. FEP coatings have a melting temperature of 450 degrees Fahrenheit to allow easier melting and flowing in coating applications.
Oxidation Resistant
FEP coating is resistant to many different types of chemical actions and even oxidation. It can also stand up to a number of very strong acids, ultraviolet rays and other radiation, alkali, and various types of oxidizing agents.
Low Absorption
FEP has a lower absorption rate than almost all other non-stick coatings on the market. It absorbs very few common bases or acids, even when the temperature reaches up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Furthermore, it absorbs very little aqueous solutions and moisture.
Low Permeation Rates
FEP has very low permeation rates for vapors and gases, especially when compared with other fluoropolymers. Permeation tends to increase with contact to the surface area, as well as pressure and temperature. However, it decreases when the thickness of the material is increased.
